KATHERINE MARTIN
Owner, Photographer
Hi! I’m Katherine. I’m born and raised in Michigan, earned an education in Chicago, did a stint in London, and now I’ve settled as a photographer in Brooklyn.
My interest in photography manifested when I was thirteen years old, growing up in small-town southeast Michigan. I had already discovered my love of storytelling through writing and traditional art at a very young age, and photographic storytelling fit in perfectly alongside those mediums. In 2015, I moved to Chicago to begin studying writing and photography at Columbia College Chicago. Over my four years at CCC, I became proficient in technique and theory, as well as studio photography and editing in Photoshop. I decided to evolve K Martin Photography, established when I was just a teen, into a professional venture after graduating in the spring of 2019.
My photography largely consists of portraiture that is rooted in nature and storytelling. I prefer my images to feel as though they are stills taken from real life, even when they exist in more abstract forms. It is for this reason that my portraiture sessions tends to be relaxed; I place my subjects in natural, inviting environments that aim to project warmth and realism as opposed to posed formality that may come off as insincere. It is my main goal that my clients always feel as comfortable as possible during a session—because a comfortable subject results in a more earnest and appealing end product, but also because I wants the photographic process to be a truly enjoyable one for everyone I work with.
Now I am based in Brooklyn, NY with my husband and our cat. Interested in booking a photographer in Brooklyn or even the in tri-state area and looking for portrait artist to capture your most treasured memories? Let’s chat!
